Apollo/Starbuck
UNFINISHED
Bojay watched the scene across the room in disgust. Apollo and Starbuck sitting at a table, laughing quietly and touching one another as lovers do. Bojay found it disgusting, and not for the first time wished he was on the Pegasus. Cain would have never allowed such behavior in the ranks; it caused moral collapse. Adama and the council had agreed that same sex relationships would be accepted and even blessed. He frowned, now it seemed that same sex couples were crawling from the launch tubes! Even his beloved Sheba was involved, with Cassiopeia.
That was the source of his true anger; now that Apollo and Starbuck had announced their relationship, others followed. Now, he would never have a chance at a relationship with Sheba. He swallowed his drink; staring at the couple, and realized he hated the pair. Apollo caressed Starbuck's hand; and Bojay rose from his seat, no longer able to watch.
As Apollo's hand softly caressed his own, Starbuck shivered. He stared at the hand, remembering how those long fingers tortured his aching body last cycle. Apollo deep inside, filling him with ecstasy before wrapping his fingers around his throbbing cock. He moaned softly, feeling his cock twitch at the memory. Never before; had a lover given him such pleasure; Apollo was his heart and soul.
Hearing Starbuck moan softly, Apollo chuckled. Discretely his hand moved under the table and rested his hand on Starbuck's thigh. He moved his hand slowly up the leg, softly running his fingers along the thick hardness between Starbuck's legs. Starbuck gasped; and Apollo whispered. "You haven't been listening to a word I've said, love."
Starbuck moaned and shifted slightly, spreading his legs wider under the table. Apollo continued his soft caressing and Starbuck gasped, "Sorry, I'm a little distracted at the moment!"
Apollo laughed, pulling his hand away. He met Starbuck's eyes, "I guess we better continue that later, because I really need you to pay attention." He ignored Starbuck's groan of frustration and continued. "After the sealing, father has given us two cycles to celebrate." He sighed, "As long as everything remains relatively quiet."
Starbuck asked in surprise, "Who's covering our patrols?"
Apollo grinned, "Boomer, Sheba and a few other pilots." Starbuck nodded and Apollo continued, "So, all we need to decide is where you want to go for two cycles?"
Starbuck thought for a centon, before reaching out and grasping Apollo's hand. He stared into Apollo's eyes and whispered, "I don't care, as long as I'm with you I'll go anywhere."
Apollo smiled squeezing Starbuck's hand. Until they were sealed, Starbuck was forced to sleep in the billets. The council had demanded that much, knowing that not everyone in the fleet agreed with their decision on same sex couples. It was their compromise to a delicate situation. Starbuck and Apollo had agreed, not wanting to cause trouble for Adama. Now Apollo couldn't wait the three sectons for them to be sealed, hating the fact they had to grab time alone together whenever they could. He wanted more, he didn't want Starbuck leaving him to return to the billets. He wanted to see his love's face, before he fell asleep and once he woke. When it was deep into sleep cycle, he wanted to wake and see Starbuck, hear his quiet breathing and feel his body close to his own. He wanted everything, and was finding it difficult to wait three sectons. Starbuck suddenly squeezed his hand, raising his eyebrows in question. Apollo blushed, realizing he was quiet for too long. "Sorry, Starbuck, just thinking about where I can take you for two cycles."
Starbuck smiled. "Just make sure we'll be alone." His eyes roamed Apollo's face, lingering on his eyes and mouth. He leaned forward, his face close to Apollo's, and whispered huskily, "I don't want anyone interrupting us, love." He stared into the green eyes, and licked his lips slowly.
Apollo's heart beat loudly as he lost himself in the blue pools of Starbuck's eyes. His cock rose, feeling Starbuck's warm breath brush across his face. Apollo moaned softly, watching Starbuck's tongue slid across his lips. Suddenly his lover laughed softly and rose from the table, leaving Apollo to groan in frustration.
Starbuck met Apollo's eyes and saw the frustration, he smiled. "As you know Captain, I have a patrol." He leaned forward, whispering, "I'll be back in a few centars, I'll come by then."
Apollo grasped his hand. "Be safe, love." Starbuck stared at him for a centon before nodding. Apollo watched as he left the club, praying to the gods for his safe return. Apollo was wise enough to realize that no patrol was routine. He finished his ambrosia, and rose slowly from the table. While Starbuck was out on patrol, he wanted to make the arrangements for their two cycles. He had inquired about the president's suit on the Rising Star and was surprised to find it available. It had cost him over three hectons salary, but he didn't care. He wanted to give Starbuck the best; nothing was too good for him.

As the hatch to his viper opened, Starbuck groaned in relief. For the last three centons, he and Boomer had been on patrol. He was relieved that it was over and they had seen no signs of Cylons. They were entering a new system, and the anxiety of the unknown was felt throughout the fleet. He climbed down from his viper, turning as he heard Boomer call out to him.
Boomer grinned, slapping Starbuck on the back. "Want to join me for a drink?"
Starbuck shook his head, smiling as he answered his friend. "Sorry, buddy. I already have plans."
Boomer regarded Starbuck carefully, finally breaking out into a huge grin. "Meeting Apollo?" Starbuck nodded and Boomer laughed. "After you two, ah… finish, I'll be in the OC if you two want to meet up with me." Starbuck blushed, nodding in agreement before quickly heading for the billets. Boomer watched him for a micron, shaking his head. He was thrilled that his two closest friends were finally getting sealed.
Starbuck hurried into the billets, wanting to grab a quick turbo wash before meeting with Apollo. It was mid cycle and the place was nearly deserted. He grabbed a few towels, stripping quickly before heading for the wash room.
Bojay walked into the billets with Harris and Tillet. They both came with him from the Pegasus and were, his opinion, the best damn pilots in the fleet. Together they were part of the Green Squadron. He walked past Starbuck's bunk, noticing the discarded uniform. He paused hearing someone in the wash room. He glanced around the empty room, grinning. He whispered to his two companions, "Come on, we're going to have some fun." Tillet and Harris snickered, and Bojay led them into the wash room.
Starbuck was standing in front of the mirrors, a towel wrapped around his waist. Bojay's voice was filled with vehemence, as he taunted Starbuck. "Well, look what we found! A queer boy!"
Starbuck stiffened at the sound of Bojay's voice. For sectons now, he had tolerated the snide remarks from the arrogant pilot and his friends. Starbuck was helpless, wanting to wipe the smirk off Bojay's face, but realizing he couldn't. He feared if the Council found out about the tension amongst the pilots, they might change their decision about same sex relationships. He gathered his belongings, turning slowly. "What do you want, Bojay?"
Bojay grinned, stepping closer. "What do I want?" He stood close to Starbuck, his voice filled with rage. "I want you stripped of your wings and shipped off to the prison barge!" He poked Starbuck in the chest, continuing. "You're a queer! Corrupting everyone around you!"
Starbuck was trembling with rage; he clenched his fists trying to control it. He smiled smugly, speaking softly. "I assume you're talking about Sheba." His grin grew wider, and he patted Bojay on the arm. "You never had a chance, she prefers an intellectual partner." At Bojay's outraged expression, Starbuck grinned and pushed past them. He had taken a few steps before he felt Bojay tackle him from behind. The wind was momentarily knocked from him as he hit the floor. They struggled on the floor, each trying to best the other. Fueled by his own anger, Starbuck swung his fists.
Bojay tried to deflect Starbuck's fists, finally calling out to Harris and Tillet. "Give me a hand!" Harris moved quickly, kicking Starbuck in the abdomen. Starbuck cried out, and stopped struggling. Bojay quickly disentangled himself and rose to his feet. Breathing heavily, Bojay stared down at Starbuck. Filled with anger, he viciously kicked Starbuck again.
Pain erupted along Starbuck's ribs, leaving him breathless. Instinctively he curled up, trying to protect himself. He felt hands on him, pulling him to his feet. He struggled weakly; finding himself easily pushed against the wall. Harris and Tillet stood on either side, holding his arms. Sometime during the struggle, he had lost the towel around his waist. He breathed heavily; as Bojay stood in front of him. Starbuck met Bojay's eyes, staring at him defiantly.
Bojay stood close, whispering. "You frakking queer!" He grabbed a handful of hair, and leaned in close. "If you ever touch me again, queer, I'll kill you!" Without warning, he brought his knee up into Starbuck's crotch. Starbuck screamed out in agony, Harris and Tillet releasing him. Bojay watched as Starbuck sank to the floor, moaning. He grinned before leaving the room.
Starbuck lay on the floor grasping his crotch and moaning in pain. He writhed on the floor, gagging helplessly. Finally after several centons, the pain started to diminish. Starbuck rose to his knees, biting his lip to suppress a cry of pain. As he stood, the room swirled dizzily. He reached his hand out, bracing himself against the wall. He slowly made his way back to his bunk, each step excruciating.

Apollo stored the special dinner he had prepared in the cooler, wondering where Starbuck was. His lover had returned from the patrol over a centar ago. Apollo sighed; thinking Starbuck was probably caught up in a pyramid game somewhere. He reached for the cooling bottle of ambrosia, hoping that Starbuck wouldn't be too much longer. Boxey suddenly appeared in the doorway, announcing. "I'm leaving for grandpa's now." Apollo smiled, kneeling in front of his son. "You have a good time son."
Boxey smiled, hugging his father. He pulled away, asking hesitantly, "Are you mad because I asked grandpa to help me with my school report?"
Apollo brushed the hair from Boxey's face, shaking his head. "No, son. Your grandfather is the best person to help you build those stellar maps."
Boxey smiled, relieved that he hadn't hurt his fathers feelings. Suddenly the door opened, Starbuck stepping into the room. Boxey's smiled broadened, he shouted. "Starbuck!" Before launching himself into Starbuck's arms.
Starbuck grunted in pain as he caught Boxey in his arms. He was forced to take a step backwards under the momentum, feeling his knees tremble. He gently pried the boy's arms from around his neck, lowering him to the floor. His heart ached as he saw the confusion in the brown eyes. He breathed deeply, trying to fight the pain.
Apollo realized something was wrong as soon as Starbuck entered his quarters. Starbuck was pale, and Apollo didn't miss the grunt of pain when Boxey jumped into his arms. As Starbuck lowered Boxey, Apollo stepped close, resting his arm on his lovers. He asked quietly, "What's wrong?"
Starbuck met Apollo's eyes, seeing the worry clearly. He glanced at Boxey, the confusion in his eyes replaced with his own fear. He smiled reassuringly, running his hand over Boxey's head. "Nothing, just tripped in the turbo wash." He turned to Apollo, pleading with his eyes. "Nothing serious." Starbuck didn't want the boy to know, wanted to protect him from the truth. Starbuck figured, all too soon Boxey would learn about the prejudices and hate that filled people.
Apollo seemed to understand, and kneeled in front of the boy whispering. "You run along now, grandfather is waiting for you." With one last look at Starbuck, Boxey moved slowly for the door.
Starbuck's heart broke, he knew the boy was smart enough to recognize a dismissal. He stepped in front of the door, and gritted his teeth as he kneeled. He held the boy for a micron, whispering, "I'm fine, Boxey. Nothing to worry about." Boxey stared into his eyes, trying to find the truth. After a few microns, he smiled and gave Starbuck a gentle hug before leaving. Starbuck remained on his knees, his chest tight with emotion. In his entire life, no one showed him more love than Apollo and his son.
Apollo watched Starbuck, frowning, as his lover made no move to rise to his feet. Apollo kneeled beside him, asking quietly. "Starbuck what happened?"
Starbuck met Apollo's eyes, sighing softly and rising slowly to his feet. Apollo steadied him, helping him. He smiled gratefully, whispering, "I'm okay." Apollo ignored him and led him to the bedroom, easing him slowly to the bed. Starbuck sighed in relief as he stretched out on the wide bed, closing his eyes.
Apollo was frightened, Starbuck still hadn't told him what happened. He sat on the edge of the bed, reaching for the clasp on Starbuck's tunic. Starbuck moaned softly as Apollo gently removed the shirt. He gasped as he saw the livid bruises decorating Starbuck's stomach and ribs. He whispered softly, "Oh lords!" He fought his emotions, continuing, "Who did this to you?"
Starbuck opened his eyes, seeing Apollo struggling to keep his emotions under control. He grasped Apollo's hand, "I'm okay, love." Apollo shook his head, and Starbuck saw the anger burning in the green eyes. He shifted slightly, sitting up. He cupped Apollo's face, whispering. "Apollo, I'm fine!" Apollo held his eyes and whispered, "Who?" Starbuck sighed, releasing Apollo and lying down on the bed. He struggled to find an answer for Apollo, knowing if he told him the truth, Apollo would kill Bojay. His body ached, and he unbuckled his pants, sighing in relief.
Apollo reached out and gently cupped Starbuck's crotch, watching his lover bite his lip and moan softly. Anger filled his heart, he leapt from the bed shouting, "Who?"
Starbuck met his eyes, answering softly. "Bojay." Apollo stared at him for a micron before angrily turning and leaving the bedroom. Starbuck quickly got out of the bed, crying out as a sharp pain erupted along his ribs. He gasped in pain, and cried out, "Apollo, wait!"
Apollo froze in the living area, hearing Starbuck's cry of pain. He pushed his anger away, knowing he had a more urgent matter to attend to. Finding Bojay would have to wait until he took care of his lover. He walked back into the bedroom, seeing Starbuck struggling to get out of bed. He quickly sat beside Starbuck, forcing him back onto the bed. He saw the panic in Starbuck's eyes, and felt ashamed. His lover was in pain, and he was ready to leave him to ease the anger burning in his heart. He stroked Starbuck's face lovingly, whispering, "Shh, I'm sorry, love. I won't leave you." Starbuck smiled briefly and Apollo frowned looking over Starbuck's body. He reached for Starbuck's pants, carefully easing them off. He moaned softly as he saw the bruised and swollen testicles. Apollo gently spread Starbuck's legs, trying to determine the extent of the damage. Starbuck moaned, his body stiffening. Apollo sighed, caressing his leg, meeting Starbuck's eyes. "I think we should go to the Life Center."
Starbuck shook his head, "No." Apollo was about to argue and Starbuck continued. "You know what will happen. A complaint will be filed and then an investigation. It'll just cause trouble." His voice softened, "Besides, I'll deal with Bojay."
Apollo sighed, knowing Starbuck was right. The Council was torn on deciding the laws, and Adama had been warned to keep peace amongst his warriors. An incident like this could cause serious trouble for the Commander. He reached a decision and rose from the bed, hitting the comm unit on the wall and calling Cassie.
Starbuck listened as Apollo explained the situation to Cass, relieved that Apollo wasn't forcing him to go to the Life Center. After a few microns, Starbuck heard Apollo in the cooking center. He closed his eyes, the pain easing.
Apollo walked back into the bedroom carrying an ice pack. Cass had instructed him to place it on the swelled area and she would be there shortly. He hesitated, seeing Starbuck sleeping. He hated waking him, but realized he had to. He sat on the bed, placing the pack gently on Starbuck's crotch. Starbuck's eyes flew open, and he tried to sit up. Apollo winced sympathetically, pushing his shoulders back onto the bed.
Starbuck groaned, shifting slightly. "Gods Apollo! Is that necessary?" Apollo stretched out beside Starbuck, holding the pack in place. He kissed Starbuck softly, looking into the blue eyes. "Yes, love. I'm sorry."
Starbuck nodded, biting his lip. After a few centons, he realized the pack did help the pain. He dozed lightly, feeling safe with Apollo's arms around him. He realized that for this moment, all the pain he endured was worth it. He would never regret loving Apollo; he didn't care who couldn't handle it.
Apollo held Starbuck, caressing him softly with his free hand. Starbuck was sleeping, and Apollo kissed him softly. He closed his eyes in pain, thinking about his lover returning to the billets. He held Starbuck, trying to figure out what he could do to ensure something like this never happened again.
Apollo started as he heard his door chime; he realized he must have fallen asleep. He glanced at Starbuck, he was still sleeping. He rose quickly, covering Starbuck carefully with the blanket before heading for the door. The door opened; and he smiled in relief. "Thank you so much for coming!"
Cassie smiled, and hurried into the room. She noticed the bedroom door was closed and turned back to Apollo. "Is he in the bedroom?" Apollo nodded; and led her into the room. She smiled as she watched Apollo cross the room and sit on the bed, leaning over Starbuck and gently waking him. Starbuck's eyes fluttered open, and after a micron he recognized her and tried to sit up on the bed. She moved closer, sitting on the bed across from Apollo. She pulled the blanket aside, wincing as she saw the deep bruises. Her eyes drifted lower and she frowned. Her eyes lifted meeting Apollo's anxious eyes. She asked softly, "Apollo, could you please wait outside?"
Apollo stiffened, "I want to stay."
Wanting to get the exam over with, Starbuck grasped his hand. "Apollo, go! I'll be fine."
Apollo met Starbuck's eyes, after a micron he nodded and quietly left the room. The door closed behind him and he rested against it, slowly sliding to the floor. His head ached, trying to figure out what he should do. He rested his head in his hands, and after a few centons rose to his feet and left. He had to find Bojay, make sure that this would never happen again.

Bojay, Harris and Tillet were enjoying a glass of ambrosia, when they spotted Captain Apollo enter the Officers Club. Bojay smirked, knowing that Starbuck had gone crying to his lover. Apollo saw them and for a micron their eyes locked. The smug smile faded slightly as Bojay saw the anger and contempt shinning in the Captain's eyes.
Apollo crossed the room quickly, not waiting for an invitation as he sat at the table. He ignored the other two warriors as he spoke to Bojay. "I know what you did."
Bojay smirked, "I see queer boy cried to you. Did he tell you he took the first swing and we were only protecting ourselves?"
Apollo was momentarily stunned; he had no idea that the other two were involved. Hearing the hateful name that Bojay had called Starbuck, he could imagine what had happened. He leaned forward, speaking softly. "Three against one Bojay? What's the matter, couldn't handle Starbuck on your own?" His words hit the mark; he smiled as he saw the flush of rage cross Bojay's face. He continued, "You don't want me for an enemy, Bojay! I will make your life miserable." He felt satisfaction as he saw Bojay pale slightly and the fear in his eyes. "I can have your sorry ass transferred fast, and make your life a living Hades." He glanced at the other two men, "Yours too!" Bojay remained silent; knowing Apollo could carry out his threats. Apollo rose from the table, whispering. "If you ever touch Starbuck again, I promise you, you will regret it!" Apollo quickly left the room, satisfied that Bojay believed him.
Cass helped herself to a cup of tea, wondering where Apollo had gone. She had finished examining Starbuck and found the living quarters empty. Starbuck had explained what had happened, and now she feared Apollo went out to seek revenge. Suddenly the door opened and Apollo walked into the room. He appeared to be all right, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
Apollo saw Cassie in the cooking area; and asked, "How is he? Is he going to be okay?"
Cassie smiled, handing him her tea. She decided he needed it more than she did. She guided him to the couch, sitting beside him. She held his hand as she explained Starbuck's condition. "He's going to be fine! He suffered from external bruising, but no damage was done internally." Apollo breathed a sigh of relief, and she continued. "I've given him some anti-inflammatories and a shot of pain relief. He's resting comfortably now."
Apollo took a deep breath, running his hands through his hair. His greatest fear in life was losing Starbuck; he often wondered if he could carry on without him. Cassie seemed to read his mind and hugged him tight, whispering, "He's okay, Apollo!" Apollo nodded and returned her embrace. After several microns, he pulled away. "Thank you, Cass."
Cassie smiled, rising from the couch. She grabbed her bag and walked towards the door. She turned back towards Apollo; "The swelling should go down in a few centars. If not, don't hesitate to call me."
Apollo nodded before she left. He turned back toward the bedroom, entering quietly. Starbuck was sleeping soundly; Apollo removed his uniform and carefully climbed into bed beside him. He pulled the blankets higher, covering them both. Holding Starbuck in his arms, he closed his eyes.
Starbuck woke a few centars later, feeling Apollo's arms around him. He smiled; for the moment the prejudice of Bojay and his friends was worth it. Apollo was his heart and soul, nothing would ever change that. Certainly not the ignorance of Bojay.
Apollo murmured softly in his sleep, gently thrusting his hips against Starbuck's ass. Starbuck smiled, feeling his love's erection. He glanced at the chronometer, deciding he had a few centons before he had to return to the billets. Very carefully he rolled over to face Apollo, kissing him softly. He was slightly surprised when after a micron; Apollo's mouth opened and Apollo's tongue entwined itself around his own. He chuckled softly, moving his lips across Apollo's jaw and nibbling on his ear, before whispering, "I thought you were asleep."
Apollo shivered as he felt Starbuck's tongue slide slowly into his ear. Before he had a chance to reply, he gasped in pleasure feeling Starbuck's hand caressing his chest softly. Starbuck's hand moved slowly lower causing Apollo to spread his legs wantonly. He groaned in frustration as the torturous hand ignored his aching cock and gently massaged his thigh.
Starbuck sucked on Apollo's neck, moving his lips slowly down to his nipples. He licked each hard nub, before gently biting it. Apollo cried out in pleasure, arching his back and tangling his hands in Starbuck's hair. Starbuck felt Apollo urging him lower, and after a few microns he relented. He sucked and licked his way down Apollo's stomach, finally reaching his goal.
Apollo cried out as he felt himself being engulfed by Starbuck's hot mouth. "Ahh…" The rest was lost in an incoherent moan as Starbuck inserted a finger deep inside him. His chest heaved as he struggled for air, his hands tightly gripping Starbuck's shoulders. A cascade of pleasure washed over him, he thrust eagerly, feeling his orgasm build.
Starbuck could feel the tenseness in Apollo's body and knew his lover was close. He took Apollo deeper, sealing his lips tightly around the base of his cock. His finger thrust deeply inside, finding the small gland and rubbing it gently. A few microns later, the first pulse of Apollo's seed hit the back of his throat. He swallowed eagerly, continuing his loving long after swallowing the last drop of Apollo's essence. Apollo now gently caressed his head and shoulders, no longer tightly gripping them. Starbuck heard him moan softly, and finally released the spent cock. He crawled up the bed, running his fingers through Apollo's hair; he leaned down and kissed him tenderly.
Apollo lay passively, his body still tingling with pleasure. The kiss ended, Apollo opened his eyes and stared into Starbuck's. He reached up a hand and gently caressed his face, whispering. "I love you."
Starbuck smiled, "I love you, too." He kissed him again softly, before climbing from the bed. He winced as a sharp pain erupted in his ribs. He sighed in frustration; while he made love to Apollo he hadn't felt any pain, now as he prepared to return to the billets, the pain had returned.
Apollo climbed from the bed quickly, wrapping his arms around Starbuck's waist and resting his head against his back. In a soft voice, he asked, "Where are you going? We still have some time." Apollo caressed Starbuck's stomach, moving his hand lower. He continued in a whisper, "My turn to pleasure you, love."
Starbuck groaned; as Apollo's hand gently fondled his soft cock. After the beating today; he wasn't sure if he was able to enjoy himself. Apollo seemed to read his mind; and whispered, "I'll be gentle love, I promise." Starbuck swallowed heavily; never had anyone ever loved him as Apollo did. He turned in Apollo's arms, meeting his eyes. He whispered, "I know you will. I trust you."
Apollo smiled, "Good." He pulled Starbuck close, kissing him passionately. After a few centons of passionate kissing and gentle caressing, he felt Starbuck's cock stir against his own. He broke the kiss, stepping away slightly. Starbuck stood still, watching him. Very carefully, he ran his hands along Starbuck's chest and stomach. He frowned as he saw the bruises, and brought his lips down to gently trace them.
No longer in pain, Starbuck closed his eyes, reveling in the erotic sensations. Apollo's tongue moved lower, leaving a trail of warm wetness. The tongue traveled into his pubic hair, and Starbuck bit his lip anticipating the moment it would wrap around his throbbing erection. Apollo paused; and Starbuck opened his eyes in question. Apollo met Starbuck's eyes, whispering, "If I hurt you, please tell me." Starbuck ran his fingers through Apollo's hair and gasped, "Please…don't stop!"
Apollo needed no further encouragement, gently licking the tip of Starbuck's cock. Starbuck groaned, thrusting his hips, encouraging Apollo to go for a firmer touch. Apollo conceded, taking Starbuck's entire length deep into his mouth. He sucked eagerly, tasting the drops of precum. Apollo avoided Starbuck's testicles, knowing they were still tender. He simply ran his hands lovingly along the back of Starbuck's thighs, his fingers teasing the cleft of Starbuck's ass.
Starbuck began thrusting his hips rhythmically, groaning his pleasure as Apollo's hands gripped his ass and urged him on. He clenched his teeth as he felt Apollo's soft tongue rubbing insistently along his length. He spread his legs wider; gripping Apollo's shoulders and ramming his cock deep into his lover's throat. Sparks erupted behind his closed eyes as the first spasm rocked his body. He cried out in ecstasy, slowly pulling out and quickly thrusting into Apollo's willing mouth. Apollo's lips remained sealed around his throbbing cock, milking every drop of come he had. His chest heaving, he opened his eyes and watched as Apollo lovingly swirled his tongue around the tip of his cock. He groaned and stroked Apollo's face, meeting the green eyes. "Oh gods, Apollo!" He sank to his knees, nuzzling Apollo's neck. "I love you!"
Apollo wrapped his arms around Starbuck, gently caressing his back. He waited a few microns until Starbuck caught his breath, before pulling slightly away. He cupped Starbuck's face, whispering, "I love you, too." He kissed Starbuck tenderly, hating the fact he had to leave. He met Starbuck's eyes, whispering, "I had a little talk with Bojay, he won't bother you again."
Starbuck stared at Apollo for a micron, before suddenly rising to his feet. "Frak, Apollo! You should have left it alone!" He started to dress, suddenly feeling very angry. He buckled his boots, feeling Apollo touch him gently. He turned and faced his lover; "I don't need a frakking babysitter! I can fight my own battles!"
Apollo was confused; he only wanted to protect Starbuck. His own anger ignited, "I was only trying to help!"
"Help?" Starbuck shouted. "I can fight my own battles, Captain!" He turned to leave, and felt Apollo grabbing him. He met Apollo's eyes, seeing the confusion. His anger suddenly dissipated, he whispered, "I'm sorry, love." He sat on the edge of the bed, running his hands through his hair.
Apollo kneeled on the floor, reaching for his hands. He met Starbuck's eyes. "Please, tell me what's wrong!"
Starbuck nodded, taking a deep breath. "I'm tired. Tired of Bojay and.." Suddenly the alarm klaxon blared. He rose from the bed quickly, hearing Apollo curse softly. He started running for the door, pausing and turning back towards Apollo. "I love you, Apollo."
Apollo was pulling on his uniform, and met Starbuck's eyes. "Love you, too." Starbuck smiled briefly before running from his quarters. Apollo quickly finished dressing before he, too, fled his quarters. He knew the alarm could only mean one thing, they had encountered Cylons.
@@@
The battle was as intense as Apollo ever remembered. Finally it seemed to be slowing, only a few stray Cylon ships remaining. The Cylon ships suddenly broke formation and scattered in-groups of three, each group going a different direction. He noticed they seemed to be fleeing, and spoke into his helmet. "We can't let them return to their base ship. Seek and destroy!" He heard his love's voice; "I got the ones on the right!" Apollo smiled tiredly, replying. "I'll take the left." As he banked away to pursue the Cylons, he noticed another viper following Starbuck. Boomer saddled up beside him, and he hit his thrusters, determined not to allow the Cylons to escape.
By the time Starbuck caught up to the retreating Cylons, he had traveled quite a distance from the fleet. He locked on to one of the Cylon ships, firing a volley of torpedoes. He grinned in triumph as the ship blew apart. Another viper flew beside him, locking on another Cylon ship. He shouted in joy as he watched the pilot destroy the second Cylon ship. He grinned, that left one remaining Cylon.
Suddenly his cockpit was filled with a loud warning alarm. He checked his scanner, cursing softly as he saw the last Cylon ship had locked onto him. He gripped the flight control, turning sharply. The blasts from the Cylon ship narrowly missing him. His scanner still showed the ship on his tail; he fought with the controls, trying desperately to lose the Cylon. His ship suddenly rocked from an explosion and Starbuck thought he was going to die. After a micron he grinned widely, seeing the other viper flying on his tail as opposed to the Cylon ship. He joyfully spoke, "Thank you! I'm buying you a drink!" He watched the scanner, expecting the viper to pull along side of him. He frowned as the viper remained behind him. A soft voice replied. "Good bye, queer boy!" Instinctively he pulled on the control, his ship rocking violently as the first round of torpedoes struck. The viper shuddered and sparks flew from the control panel. He checked his scanner, finding a planet. He spoke into his helmet, "Galactica! Do you copy?" Static was his only reply. Another explosion rocked the viper; he cursed as he saw it was his rear thruster. His heart beat frantically as he struggled to keep the viper flying. As the planet loomed closer, he thought of Apollo. His love would never know what had happened. He said a quick prayer to the gods, praying for himself and his lover.
Bojay watched as Starbuck's viper disappeared. He grinned, it hadn't been a clean hit, and several pieces of Starbuck's rear thruster hit his viper. But he had managed to disable the viper enough that he doubted Starbuck could land it in one piece. His grin faded slightly as he remembered the data recorder in every viper. His grin returned as he remembered how Cain had made every pilot work on his own viper. He could easily erase the few microns of him shooting down Starbuck. He glanced at his scanner; he still had plenty of time before he was with in range of the fleet. He placed his viper on autopilot and proceeded to erase the data. After a few centons, he watched the recording. It showed him following a Cylon ship, which was firing on another viper. An explosion filled the screen, and both the Cylon and viper were gone. Bojay grinned; the tape now showed the Cylon destroying Starbuck's viper. He laughed loudly, realizing he had just destroyed Apollo and Starbuck.

Apollo stood in the command center, watching the long-range screen. His hands trembled slightly, something was wrong, he could feel it. Suddenly there was a ship just breaking onto the screen, and Bojay's voice filled the room. "Galactica! Galactica! Come in please!"
Athena answered, "This is the Galactica, please report."
Bojay smiled, and tried to hide his excitement. "This is Captain Bojay, I'm sorry to report the loss of Lieutenant Starbuck." He continued softly, "He died in the line of duty." He smiled, proud that he sounded so upset. He could imagine the look on Apollo's face.
Apollo staggered back, his entire world spinning wildly. He shook his head in denial; not believing Starbuck was dead. Bojay continued, "I was too late, the Cylons had a lock on him." Adama placed a hand on his shoulder, asking Bojay. "Did any Cylons escape?" Bojay answered softly, "No, sir, I destroyed them."
Apollo suddenly felt ill, he quickly left the command center. Adama called for him; he ignored him, wanting to escape the nightmare. He ran through the corridors, finally finding his quarters. The doors sealed shut, and Apollo sank to the floor. "Oh, gods, Starbuck! No!" Deep sobs tore through his body, and he sobbed incoherently. "Oh…Starbuck please!…Don't leave me..!"

Adama sat in his office, Captain Bojay had just left. He sighed and met Tigh's eyes. "Have you seen my son?"
Tigh answered softly, "No, sir, not after he left the bridge."
Adama nodded. "Please ask Athena to take Boxey home. I need to find my son." Tigh nodded and left the office quietly. Adama stared at the hologram on his desk. It showed Apollo and Starbuck as young boys. He smiled faintly, they were always inseparable. His smile faded, now Starbuck was lost to them forever. He rose slowly, his heart filled with the same pain he felt when he lost his youngest son Zac. He walked through the corridors, noticing how depressing the atmosphere seemed. He paused outside Apollo's door, gathering his strength. He rang, the buzzer, not surprised when no one answered. He overrode the control panel, the door opening immediately. He groaned as he saw his son sitting on the floor. The door sealed behind him and kneeled beside Apollo, simply gathering him into his arms. Apollo cried, and Adama's heart shattered in grief. He stroked his son's hair, whispering, "I'm sorry, son. I'm so sorry."

Apollo sat in the darkness of his quarters; at his request, his father had left him alone to grieve. The tears had dried, giving way to a cold empty feeling. Staring out the window, Apollo realized his heart could never heal. He would go through the motions of living, but his heart was dead. He sighed and rubbed a hand across his face, in a few centons he would have to find Boxey. His son loved Starbuck, thought of his lover as a father, and Apollo realized he, too, was hurting. He walked slowly into his bedroom, sitting on the bed. On the table beside the bed was a holo pic of himself and Starbuck. He reached for the picture, running his fingers tenderly over his lover's features. "Starbuck…oh lords, why did you have to leave me?"
His vision blurred and Starbuck's features grew blurry. Apollo blinked, feeling the warmth of his tears sliding down his cheeks. He kissed the picture, whispering, "I love you, Starbuck."

Boomer sat in the Officer's Club staring at his glass of ambrosia. Sheba sat beside him, grasping his hand. "I'm sorry Boomer."
Boomer smiled faintly, meeting her eyes. "Did you hear the official report?"
Sheba nodded, "Yeah. A Cylon locked onto him."
Boomer was about to reply, when he suddenly spotted Bojay across the room. He watched the Captain laugh and order drinks for his friends. He frowned, something wasn't right. He continued to watch Bojay, whispering to Sheba, "Something stinks."
Sheba followed Boomer's eyes, seeing Bojay at the bar. She turned back to Boomer, asking softly, "You don't think?"
Boomer shook his head, "I'm not sure." He suddenly rose from his seat disgusted at the scene. "I have to go." He left quickly, before he wiped the smirk off the Captains face. He started towards the billets, his mind racing. He stopped suddenly, remembering the data recorder. He turned quickly and made his way towards the launching bay. He knew if there was something wrong, the recorder would show it.
@@@
Boomer sat in his viper, the Galactica looming closer. It had only been eighteen centars since Starbuck had been killed; and the fleet moved forward. Beside him flew Apollo. The patrol had been a quiet one, both men only talking when necessary. Now as Boomer prepared to land, he thought about the data recorder. After removing it from Bojay's viper, he had taken it to Doctor Wilkes office to see what the scientist could find. He glanced at Apollo wondering if he should inform his friend. He shook his head, he knew that the odds of finding anything useful on the tape were slim. He sighed; most likely the only thing on the tape was the devastating sight of Starbuck's viper being destroyed by a Cylon. Boomer knew Apollo did not need to see that.
Lethargically, Apollo went through the landing preparations. His viper flying towards the landing bay. For a centon he thought about flying straight into the side of the Galactica, wanting to end the deep ache inside. Starbuck's soft voice filled his cockpit, "No, love. So many people need you." Visions of Boxey, Adama and Athena filled his head. They would be devastated, even though it would end his misery. He gripped the control stick, landing carefully on the flight deck. As the crew locked his viper down, he whispered softly, "I'll try, love." A crewman knocked on hatch, startling him. He nodded slightly, opening the hatch and slowly climbing out. Across the bay he saw Boomer and Doctor Wilkes talking. It seemed to Apollo that the doctor was quite excited over something. He slowly walked to detox, not really caring. In the detox chamber he slumped against the wall, suddenly feeling exhausted. He only caught a few centons of sleep, and that was with the help of some medication Cassie dropped off. His dreams had been filled with memories of Starbuck, and then he woke, to the nightmare of reality. A buzzer sounded, and the chamber door opened. He stepped from the chamber, noticing Boomer and doctor Wilkes had left. In a fog of misery, he walked slowly towards his father's office.
Doctor Wilkes and Boomer made their way quickly to the bridge, seeking out Commander Adama. Wilkes crossed the bridge quickly, seeing Adama talking quietly to Tigh. He interrupted their conversation, "Excuse me sir, I need to speak to you in private."
Adama glanced at the scientist, noticing Boomer standing anxiously behind him. He nodded, and glanced at Tigh, "Excuse me, Colonel." Tigh nodded and Adama led the pair to his office. Once inside, he sat behind his desk, asking, "What can I do for you gentlemen."
Wilkes glanced at Boomer before taking a deep breath. "Sir, Lieutenant Boomer brought me the data recorder from Captain Bojay's viper." Wilkes held up the tape, Adama remained silent, simply glancing at Boomer. Wilkes continued, "Immediately, I realized someone tampered with the tape. It seems someone deliberately erased fifty four microns of tape."
Adama sat forward, a sick feeling forming in the pit of his stomach. He asked hesitantly, "Were you able to retrieve it?"
Wilkes answered, "Yes sir." He placed the tape in the recorder, turning on the monitor. He glanced at Adama; "Lieutenant Starbuck's viper was not destroyed by the Cylons." He hit play and stepped away from the monitor, Starbuck's viper filling the screen.
Boomer breathed deeply, trying to control the rage building inside. He watched the tape again, seeing the Cylon fighter on Starbuck's tail. Only to be destroyed a few microns later by Bojay. The two vipers continued to fly one right behind the other. Boomer winced as Starbuck's viper turned sharply; a half a micron before Bojay fired his lasers. Starbuck must have known Bojay was going to fire at him and tried to take evasive actions. His ship was hit, but not directly. Boomer watched as the viper spiraled out of control, before Starbuck finally gained control. A few microns later, it disappeared completely from the screen.
Wilkes turned off the monitor, and Boomer glanced at Adama. Despite his inner turmoil, he spoke calmly, "Commander, Starbuck's viper wasn't destroyed! I checked his coordinates and there is a planet close." Adama straightened in his chair, listening carefully. Boomer took a deep breath, continuing, "I think he probably tried to land…" Suddenly the sound of the chime filled the room, interrupting him.
Adama rose from his chair, calling out sharply, "Enter!" Apollo entered his office hesitantly, noticing Wilkes and Boomer. Apollo turned sad, confused eyes towards him. An awkward silence filled the room, Wilkes and Boomer staring at Adama, waiting to follow his lead. Adama wondered if this development would cause his son more pain. To know Starbuck was fired upon by a fellow warrior.
Apollo knew something was wrong, he glanced at Boomer, noticing the way his friend avoided his eyes. He turned to his father, "What's going on?"
Adama laid his hand on Apollo's shoulder, "I think you need to see something." He nodded to Wilkes, indicating for him to replay the tape.
As he watched the tape, his knees trembled violently, causing him to sink into a chair. After a centon, Wilkes turned off the tape. Apollo stared at the screen, horrified at what he had seen. He spoke softly, "That bastard shot him!" He leapt from the couch, meeting Adama's eyes. "I'll kill him!"
Boomer stepped forward, wanting to calm Apollo down. "Apollo listen, I tracked the coordinates, there was a planet." Boomer rested his hand on Apollo's shoulder, holding his gaze. "There may be a chance he managed to land!"
Adama had seen the damage done to Starbuck's viper, and realized the chances of Starbuck being able to land the viper in one piece were slim. Apollo turned to face him, and Adama could see the desperate hope in his son's eyes. Not wanting Apollo to harbor false hope, he spoke somberly, "The tape showed the damage to Starbuck's viper was extensive. The chances of him landing safely on the planet are slim." Apollo shook his head, tears filling his eyes. Adama continued softly, "His viper was probably destroyed when he entered the planets atmosphere."
Apollo shook his head frantically, denying his father's words. "No! No, he was one of the best pilots in the fleet! If anyone could manage to land, it would have been him!"
Adama turned and stared at the stellar map. Boomer stood beside him, speaking softly. "Sir, we will pass by the planet in a few cycles. Please allow us to take a shuttle down there, find out for sure."
Adama turned from the map, meeting his son's eyes. Apollo needed to know for sure what happened to Starbuck. He realized he couldn't deny him the truth, no matter how painful it would be. He nodded slowly, issuing his orders. "Colonel Tigh and I will deal with Captain Bojay. Apollo, you and Boomer take a shuttle down to the planet. You have two cycles to find him before you need to return." Apollo smiled slightly, nodding his agreement. He glanced at Boomer and both men walked towards the door. Adama grasped his son's arm. "I think it would be wise to ask Cassie to accompany you." Apollo nodded, and tried to leave. Adama held his arm firmly, holding his eyes. "I will deal with Bojay, Apollo. You are not to confront him, understand?"
Apollo held his father's eyes, after a micron he nodded his agreement. His father released his arm, and he hurried from the room. Tigh glanced at him curiously as he and Boomer nearly ran through the bridge.

As Apollo turned the corner and started down the corridor, which led to the Life Center, Boomer stopped. Apollo turned, Boomer explained. "I'll go and prepare the shuttle. I'll meet you on the flight deck!" Apollo nodded, and Boomer ran towards the lift. Once inside the shuttle, he entered the last known coordinates of Starbuck's viper into the shuttle computer. He entered the trajectory of the disabled viper, guessing at the speed the viper was able to fly. A few microns later, it beeped softly displaying the planet. The screen showed a highlighted area, the computer's estimation of where the crippled viper would have landed. Boomer sighed, as long as it hadn't disintegrated in the atmosphere. Boomer forced the dark images from his mind, saving the information. That area would be where they would start their search; hopefully Starbuck would be there. Suddenly the hatch opened and Cassie ran onto the shuttle, followed closely by Apollo.
Apollo quickly moved past Cassie, sitting beside Boomer. He buckled himself into the pilot's seat and glanced at Boomer. "Ready?" Boomer nodded, reaching for his own safety harness. Apollo radioed the bridge, "Shuttle one to Galactica. Starting preflight preparations." He heard his sister's voice, "All clear, shuttle one. May the lords be with you."
As the shuttle cleared the Galactica, Cassie checked over the medical supplies she had managed to pack. When Apollo had rushed into the Life Center and explained the situation, he hadn't given her much time to pack a kit. Digging through the bag, she tried to envision the injuries someone would suffer after crashing their viper. She breathed a sigh of relief; the kit was fully packed, containing everything from bandages to a portable ventilator. Still apprehensive, she stared out the window. She was only a med tech, and even if she was a doctor, there wasn't much she could do on a planet or in the shuttle. She could only pray that Starbuck's infamous luck would continue and he only suffered minor injuries.

On the planet's surface, inside his viper, Starbuck slowly opened his eyes. He groaned softly, his entire body exploding in pain. He couldn't see, surrounded by total darkness. He guessed it was nightfall, and carefully moved his right arm. He groaned again, as fire erupted inside his chest. Clenching his teeth, his hand moved slowly down his side. A wave of nauseous passed over him as he felt the jagged metal of the viper's console crushing his legs. He felt a warm sticky substance on his thigh, he knew it was his own blood. His hand fell away limply, and Starbuck closed his eyes. His mind floated; this was the third time he had awakened. He wondered how he had managed to crash another viper, and how long he had been on the planet. It seemed; every time he woke it was nightfall again. He tried to ignore the pain, thinking of Apollo instead.
Inside the shuttle, Apollo checked the scanners. They were flying low over the planet's surface, searching the area in which the computer had estimated Starbuck's viper had landed. For the last centar, he had kept his eyes glued to the scanner, waiting for a signal. Suddenly the alarm sounded, and Apollo checked the readings. He spoke excitedly, "There! 28 kilometers south!"
Boomer checked the reading, smiling slightly. The shuttle scanners had picked up traces of radiation. He prayed that it came from Starbuck's viper. He stared out the window, his eyes searching the planet's surface. They flew over a meadow, surrounded by tall trees. Any other time, Boomer would have thought it a beautiful planet.
Suddenly he saw the scorch marks, the grass blackened by fire. Apollo whispered harshly, "Frak!" Boomer moaned softly, as he saw the viper. It was obvious it had rolled several times before coming to rest against a tree. The front end buckled, while the rear thrusters were severed from the ship entirely. Boomer's hands trembled as he landed the shuttle. Glancing at Apollo, he wondered if it was wise to come here. He doubted seriously that Starbuck could have survived.
As soon as the shuttle touched down, Apollo leapt from his seat and opened the hatch. He ignored Boomer's shout for him to wait, his lungs burning as he raced across the field.
Cassie glanced at Boomer, knowing why he had shouted out to Apollo. She, too, feared that Apollo was going to find the mangled remains of his lover. Boomer cursed softly as Apollo climbed onto the viper, and Cassie gripped the kit running after him. As she neared the down craft, she heard Apollo shouting frantically. "Starbuck! Starbuck, can you hear me?" She climbed onto the viper, gasping as she saw the canopy covered in blood. As Apollo struggled to release the hatch, she scanned for life signs. Cassie cried out, "Hurry, he's still alive!"
Apollo screamed in frustration as he struggled with the canopy. Boomer scampered onto the viper, and after a few microns the canopy sprung open. Apollo cried out as he saw Starbuck's condition. Blood stained his lover's tunic, and as Apollo's eyes lowered, he groaned in agony. Starbuck's legs disappeared beneath the twisted wreckage of the console. More blood had congealed between his legs. Cassie pushed him out of the way, carefully moving closer to Starbuck. Dazed, Apollo watched as she ran the scanner over Starbuck. She bit her lip and reached for the helmet, slowly removing it. Apollo gasped as he saw the blood staining the blond hair. Dried blood was caked on Starbuck's face, his head rolling limply.
Cassie realized if Starbuck was going to survive, he needed to be removed from the viper. She glanced down and saw his legs buried beneath the metal. Carefully, she ran her hands down his leg, feeling the sharp metal cutting into him. She glanced at Boomer; "His legs are trapped! We need something to pry the metal away!" Boomer nodded and climbed down off the viper. Cassie glanced at Apollo; he was obviously in shock. She grasped his hand, forcing him to listen to her. "Apollo, help Boomer! We have to get him out of here!" After a micron, he nodded and jumped from the viper. Cassie turned back to Starbuck, administering a hypo to slow the flow of blood. She checked his pupils; they were fully dilated and unresponsive. Her fingers thread through his hair, seeing the deep gash that ran from his temple to behind his ear. Cassie saw the blood seeping from his nose and ears, a sure sign of internal bleeding. She reached out a hand, gently caressing his face. "Hold on Starbuck, hold on!" Boomer climbed onto the viper, holding a long pole. She glanced at him curiously, wondering where he had found it.
Boomer answered the unspoken question; "We cut it from the hydraulic system." Cassie nodded, and he carefully placed it between Starbuck's legs. He waited until Apollo positioned himself behind Starbuck, before he lifted the pole. The metal made a sickening grinding sound as the console moved slightly.
Apollo placed his hands under Starbuck's arms, lifting him as Boomer pried the metal away. Starbuck jerked in his arms as Apollo lifted him. He lifted Starbuck slowly, not wanting to cause more damage. He heard Boomer grunt, "Hurry, I can't hold it much longer!" Apollo gritted his teeth, pulling sharply. Starbuck convulsed in his arms, moaning softly.
Cassie saw Starbuck's knees, and carefully pulled his legs free from the metal. As soon as Starbuck was free, Boomer released the pole, the console falling back. Apollo cradled Starbuck in his arms, while Boomer and Cassie jumped from the viper. Cassie watched as Apollo carefully handed Starbuck to Boomer. Boomer waited for Apollo to jump from the viper; together they carried Starbuck to the shuttle.
Apollo carefully laid Starbuck onto the floor, kneeling down beside him. Boomer moved past, helping Cassie inside and sealing the hatch. Apollo fought his tears, gently stroking his love's face. Cassie kneeled down beside Starbuck, immediately cutting away his pants.
Apollo gasped as he saw the damage. A bone protruded through the skin right below the knee and deep gashes covered his thighs and shins. The skin on his left leg was flayed open at the knee, exposing the bones. Apollo grasped Starbuck's hand, holding it tight.
Cassie continued to remove the bloodied clothes, exposing all of Starbuck's injuries. Deep reddish purple bruises covered his chest and stomach. She frowned, knowing he suffered internal damage. Apollo moaned softly, and she spared him a glance. He was pale and trembling violently. She handed him some bandages, pointing towards Starbuck's legs. "Try and stop the bleeding." Apollo nodded, and grasped the bandages. She watched him for a micron, hoping he could pull himself together. The shuttle rocked gently, she steadied herself, relieved to be on their way back to the Galactica.
Starbuck moaned softly, pain exploding in his legs. Fear gripped him as he felt someone touching him, moving his legs. He opened his eyes blackness surrounded him. His heart beat wildly as he heard voices, and couldn't understand them. Suddenly his knee was on fire; he cried out and tried to crawl away from the hands.
"Frak! Cassie!" Apollo cursed as he saw Starbuck desperately trying to move. He moved close to Starbuck's chest, gently urging him to lie still. Starbuck weakly pushed at his hands, Apollo whispered soothingly, "Shh, Starbuck!" Starbuck continued to struggle and Apollo glanced at Cassie desperately.
Starbuck felt hands gripping his shoulders, holding him down. The blackness continued to surround him, and fear tingled down his spine as he tried to figure out what was happening. The hands loosened their grip, and he managed to sit up. Something filled his mouth and he struggled to breathe. He realized it was his own blood and began to choke.
Apollo was horrified as he saw the blood dribble down Starbuck's chin. "Oh, gods! Cassie do something!" Cassie quickly pressed a hypo against Starbuck's neck, and Apollo cradled his lover in his arms. Starbuck's eyes remained open, but he never seemed to see Apollo. After a few microns, Starbuck finally relaxed against him. Starbuck's eyes remained open, staring at the ceiling of the shuttle. Apollo gasped, slowly moving his hand in front of Starbuck's eyes. There was no reaction, Starbuck didn't even blink. Apollo fought his tears, kissing Starbuck softly on the forehead.
Cassie rested her hand on Apollo's wrist, whispering, "Apollo, lay him down. He'll breath easier." Apollo nodded and gently laid Starbuck down. Cassie waited until the sedative took effect before resuming. She listened to Starbuck's breathing, worried over the rattle she heard. Fearing that he may have punctured his lung, she placed the portable ventilator over his face. She resumed wrapping Starbuck's legs, frowning as blood stained the bandages quickly.
Apollo's hands trembled as he handed Cassie the bandages. The fear and pain in his heart was immense. He prayed to the lords, knowing he wasn't strong enough to watch his love suffer and die slowly. Cassie finally sat back, rubbing her hand tiredly across her face. He looked at her anxiously, asking, "Is he going to be okay?"
"I'm not sure, Apollo." Cassie answered softly. "The sooner we get him back to the Galactica, the better his chances are." Apollo paled, and glanced down at Starbuck. Cassie saw his hands shaking as he gently brushed the hair from Starbuck's face. Cassie rose to her feet, finding a blanket. With Apollo's help, they carefully tucked the blanket around Starbuck. She walked to the front of the shuttle, sitting down in the co pilot's seat. She glanced at Boomer, "How long before we reach the Galactica?"
Boomer checked the scanner, answering, "In another centar." He met Cassie's eyes. "How's he doing?"
Cassie sighed, "Not good. He's bleeding internally and suffered severe breaks and abrasions to both his legs." She stared out the window, continuing softly, "He's also blind." Beside her Boomer cursed. She rose from her chair, patting him on the shoulder. "Hurry, Boomer. The sooner we get him home, the better his chances are."

Adama stood beside Tigh in the landing bay. They were both standing behind four med techs, all of them anxious for the shuttle's arrival. The shuttle was due to arrive at any micron, Boomer had radioed the Galactica nearly twenty centons ago. He sighed in frustration, trying to stand still as he waited. Boomer's words echoed in his mend; "He's hurt bad, sir. Internal injuries and several broken bones. Please have a med team waiting in the landing bay." Now the med team waited patiently, and Doctor Salik was in the Life Center preparing. He wondered how his son was holding up; knowing it would destroy Apollo if Starbuck died. It had been one thing to lose Starbuck in a battle, his lover dying quickly saving the fleet. But to have Apollo find him and then watch him die slowly and painfully, Adama knew it would destroy his son. His thoughts turned to Bojay, anger settling around his heart. The Council, in all their wisdom, had decided upon a tribunal before passing down sentencing. According to them, the tape was not clear. Until the tribunal, Bojay was stripped of his rank and his wings.
Adama knew he was the real reason for their hesitancy; not many on the Council agreed with his leadership. Or his influential power that swayed some members of the Council to accept same sex relationships. They covered up their ignorance claiming they wanted to have a fair hearing; but Adama knew better. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted as the bay doors opened slowly and the shuttle approached. As soon as the shuttle was locked down, the med team advanced quickly. Adama watched as the shuttle hatch opened and the team disappeared inside. A few microns later they quickly hurried out of the shuttle guiding a hover stretcher. Adama caught a glimpse of Starbuck as he was rushed by.
Tigh moaned softly at the sight, Starbuck's chest was exposed and both men saw the extensive bruising. The team guided Starbuck onto the lift, Apollo following them. The lift disappeared; and Adama turned his attention to Cassie and Boomer. Their tired expressions spoke volumes. He glanced at Tigh; "You have the bridge, Colonel. I'll be in the Life Center." Tigh nodded; and Adama guided Boomer and Cassie to the next lift. None of them spoke as they made their way to the Life Center.

Apollo paced outside the Life Center; it had been centars since Starbuck had been taken inside. Doctor Salik wouldn't allow him to follow, actually shoving him from the room. Now he waited with Boomer and his father. Cassie had disappeared shortly after arriving, even though Salik had ordered her out of the Center. The doctor had felt she was too exhausted to assist during the exam. She had given Apollo a quick wink and a brief smile, before slipping inside. Now several centars had passed and the fear in his heart was threatening to overwhelm him.
Adama sighed watching Apollo pace frantically along the corridor. It tore his heart out watching his son suffer. He glanced at Boomer, realizing Apollo wasn't the only one suffering. He didn't try to offer empty reassurances; he had seen Starbuck and the condition he was in. He stood silently, out of the way; hoping his presence offered some comfort.
Doctor Salik watched as the med techs carefully adjusted the ventilator that breathed for Starbuck. The med techs left the critical room quietly, and Salik checked Starbuck's monitors one last time. It had been a grueling four centars; they had almost lost Starbuck twice. He took a few microns, mentally preparing himself before seeing Apollo and the Commander. He ran his hand tiredly across his face; before walking slowly from the room. In the corridor,
Apollo grabbed him as he asked frantically, "How is he? Will he be all right?"
Salik rested his hand on Apollo's shoulder, speaking firmly. "Calm down! He's alive!" Apollo closed his eyes in relief and Salik glanced at Adama and Boomer before continuing. "It was close, we almost lost him twice." Apollo groaned softly, and Adama rested his arm on his son's shoulder, offering support. Salik continued, "Starbuck is severely injured, his legs nearly crushed. We were able to fuse the bones together; however, the muscle and tissue damage was quite extensive. Starbuck will have to undergo intense therapy at the least; he may be confined to braces for the remainder of his life." Salik took a deep breath, meeting their anxious eyes. "Starbuck suffered internal injuries as well. His heart and lungs were bruised severely, causing internal bleeding. We managed to stop the bleeding, but his heart muscle suffered permanent damage."
Apollo suddenly interrupted him, asking softly. "Doctor, his eyes?" Salik sighed softly, seeing the anguish in Apollo's eyes. "He suffered a blow to the head, causing pressure to build behind his eyes. We've relieved the pressure, but I'm afraid the optical nerves were damaged." He continued softly, "He's blind."
Apollo's eyes filled with tears, all the other injuries Starbuck could have handled, even his legs. Starbuck would have fought back, and through pure determination would have walked again. But Apollo knew his lover, having a permanent disability would be crushing. He fought the tears, asking shakily, "Can I see him?"
Salik hesitated before answering; knowing Starbuck needed to rest quietly. Apollo's eyes pleaded with him, and he finally gave in. "Okay." As Apollo tried to rush by, he grabbed his arm stopping him. "Apollo, he's heavily sedated. But if he should wake, it's critical that he is not disturbed in any way!" Apollo nodded, and Salik gave him a brief smile. His voice softened as he guided him into the Life Center, Boomer and Adama following. Salik glanced at the two men, asking, "Please wait here, I'll be right back." He led Apollo to the critical room, pausing outside the door. He met Apollo's eyes, whispering, "He's on a ventilator, his lung was punctured and right now it's helping him breathe."
Apollo nodded, taking a deep breath and following Salik into the room. Inside the room, the lights were dimmed and the temperature was elevated. Apollo moved closer to the bed; quietly sitting in a chair that was close. He grasped Starbuck's hand, moaning softly as he ran his eyes over his lover 's body. Starbuck's lower body was encased in a chamber, his torso was bare showing clearly the bruises from impact. The ventilator hose partially covered Starbuck's face, and more tubes protruded from his chest. Apollo guessed they were draining the liquid that had gathered in Starbuck's lungs. Apollo pulled the chair closer, reaching out and gently stroking Starbuck's cheek. Tears filled Apollo's eyes as he saw the bandages covering Starbuck's eyes. The tears spilled down his cheeks as he whispered softly, "I'm here, Starbuck!" Very carefully he leaned over the rail, kissing Starbuck gently on his cheek.
Adama walked quietly into the room, seeing Apollo sitting by Starbuck's bed. He stood behind Apollo, resting his hand lightly on his son's shoulder. For several centons, he simply watched Starbuck's chest rise and fall softly. Adama barely heard Apollo as he whispered, "Why father?"
Adama sighed, squeezing Apollo's shoulder. "I can't answer that, son." He leaned down and whispered close to Apollo's ear. "But Apollo, he's alive! You have a second chance, son. Starbuck is going to need a lot of love; to help him through this. Take this opportunity and show him the way."
Apollo nodded slowly, wiping the tears from his eyes. "You're right father. I'll be there for him, I'll help him through this." Adama squeezed his son's shoulder, walking quietly from the room. Apollo caressed Starbuck's cheek, thinking over his father's words. Adama was right, Starbuck had suffered serious injuries, and the healing would be slow and painful. A sense of resolve washed over him; Starbuck would get through this; with his help.

Cassie smiled as she read Starbuck's vitals; pleased to see he was slowly getting stronger. It had only been three cycles since they had found him, and Salik had only removed the ventilator earlier in this cycle. The absence of Apollo surprised Cassie; the Captain hadn't left Starbuck's bedside since they had found him. Sitting in the vacant chair, she laughed quietly; Salik had probably thrown Apollo out. She gently brushed the hair off Starbuck's brow, hearing him moan softly. She watched him carefully, whispering, "Starbuck?"
Starbuck floated to the surface slowly, hearing Cassie's soft voice calling his name. Fear enveloped him; he couldn't open his eyes or feel the lower half of his body. His throat ached as he tried to speak only a low groan escaping. A micron later he felt a straw placed in his mouth, he sucked eagerly, savoring the cool taste of water. All too soon, the straw was removed and he heard Cassie whisper. "Easy, Starbuck." He managed to find his voice, "Cassie?"
Cassie caressed his face with her right hand, squeezing his hand with her left. Her relief at hearing his voice was evident, as she whispered. "Yes, Starbuck! You're safe now, back on board the Galactica."
The soft fingers caressing his face soothed him slightly; he turned his head towards the sound of her voice. "Cass…my legs! I can't feel them!" Before Cassie had a chance to reply, he moved his free hand and touched the bandages covering his eyes. He struggled to sit up, feeling her hands easily restraining him. She cupped his face, her words penetrating the fear. "Shh, Starbuck! It's okay!" Starbuck could feel his heart pounding in his chest, he reached up and gripped her wrist. "Cass,…what happened to me?"
Cassie's heart broke, hearing the panic in Starbuck's voice. Despite her inner turmoil, she spoke soothingly. "Starbuck, calm down! You're going to be okay!" He moved his head on the pillow, pleading, "Cassie, please!" She took a deep breath, continuing softly, "You were in a battle and crash landed. Your legs were crushed by the console." Starbuck moaned softly, and Cassie could hear his agony. She continued quickly, "We were able to save them, Starbuck. You suffered severe fractures and several lacerations, but we managed to fuse the bones together."
Starbuck asked gently, "Will I walk again?"
Cassie gripped his hand squeezing tight. "I believe so! You'll have to go through some therapy, but I believe you will walk again!" Starbuck returned the pressure on his hand, his mind swirling. He absorbed the information, noticing she hadn't mentioned his eyes. He knew something was dreadfully wrong and asked fearfully. "Cass, my eyes?"
Cassie looked away, fighting the tears. "You received a serious blow to the head, causing pressure to build behind your eyes." Starbuck started trembling, and her voice cracked, "I'm sorry, Starbuck….You're blind."
Starbuck turned his face away from Cassie, fighting his emotions. In one terrible micron, his entire world was shattered. He struggled to control his raging emotions, feeling her hands stroking his hair and wishing she would leave him alone. In a broken voice, he whispered, "Please…leave me alone."
Cassie stared at Starbuck, biting her lip. She knew Starbuck was devastated, and wished with all her heart she could do something to help him. She rose quietly from the chair, leaning over the bed and kissing him softly on the forehead. She placed the buzzer into his hand, whispering, "If you need anything, press the button."
Starbuck nodded, wishing she would leave. Finally after a few microns, he heard her walk away and the door swoosh close. An overwhelming sense of grief washed over him, never would he fly again. Flying was who he was; he had worked his entire life to be the best pilot he could be. Fought against everyone who ever tried to hold him back, and became one of the highest scoring cadets at the academy. Now, it was over. He moaned softly, shifting carefully on the bed. He pushed his misery aside, thinking of his lover. He wondered if Apollo knew, and guessed he did by now. Fear suddenly gripped his heart; where was Apollo? Was he hurt also? He rejected the thought immediately; Cassie would have told him if anything had happened to Apollo. Misery washed over him, maybe his condition was too much for his lover. He shook his head, praying he was wrong.

Adama watched Apollo pace around his office, his body tense with anger. He rose from his chair, walking around his desk and placing a reassuring hand on his son's shoulder. "Apollo, please sit down!"
Apollo stopped pacing, meeting his father's eyes. "How could they do this?"
Adama sighed, "The Council felt that there wasn't enough evidence on the tape. Unless Starbuck can tell us exactly what happened, the Council plans on reinstating Bojay."
Apollo shook his head, trying to control the rage building inside. "Bojay shot him down and left him to die! I know he did!"
Adama placed both hands on Apollo's shoulders, forcing him to sit on the couch. He sat down beside him, trying to hide his own anger. "There was nothing I could do!" He gripped Apollo's hand, continuing, "Let's wait and see what Starbuck can tell us." Apollo opened his mouth to respond when the sound of an incoming message interrupted him. Adama rose tiredly, his face brightening as he read the message. He smiled, speaking enthusiastically, "Starbuck is awake! Salik is asking for you to go to the Life Center immediately!"
Apollo was on his feet and headed for the door before his father finished speaking, his anger for Bojay fading, as he rushed to the Life Center. He vaguely heard his father inform Tigh that he would be in the Life Center as he rushed for the lift. A few centons later, he hurried into the Life Center, looking for Salik.

Salik saw Apollo nearly running through the doors, Adama following. He handed Cassie Starbuck's chart and walked over to greet them. "Apollo, Commander."
"Doctor, is Starbuck awake? Can I see him?" Apollo asked anxiously.
Salik led them to a less busy area of the Center, before answering. "Starbuck woke for a few centons earlier. Cassiopeia was with him when he regained consciousness." He met Apollo's eyes, continuing, "She informed him of his injuries; he was quite upset and asked to be left alone."
Apollo's heart shattered, he had wanted to be there when they told Starbuck. He asked softly, "Can I see him now?" Salik nodded and he walked on trembling legs to the critical room. Inside, Starbuck appeared to be sleeping and Apollo approached the bed quietly. He sat on the edge of the bed, reaching for his lover's hand.
Starbuck woke when he felt someone sit on his bed and grasp his hand. He smiled slightly, smelling the familiar scent of his lover. His voice barely a whisper, "Apollo."
Tears filled Apollo's eyes, so relieved was he to hear Starbuck's voice. "Yes, love. I'm here." He carefully leaned over Starbuck, kissing him tenderly on the mouth. After a micron, he pulled away sitting up. With his free hand he cupped Starbuck's face, his fingers running into the soft blond hair. Starbuck moaned softly, turning his face into Apollo's hand. Apollo smiled faintly, relieved to see that his loving touch was soothing Starbuck. For a few centons, neither man spoke. Apollo had thought Starbuck had fallen asleep and was startled to hear his soft voice.
"Apollo,…I'm blind." Apollo squeezed Starbuck's hand, hearing the pain in the simple admission. His voice trembled as he whispered, "I know." Starbuck turned his head away, and Apollo gently grasped his chin, turning his face towards him. He held Starbuck's chin, speaking with determination. "I'll help you through this! It'll be okay!" Starbuck tried to turn away, but Apollo held his chin firmly. "No Starbuck, don't shut me out! Talk to me!"
Starbuck remained silent, fighting his emotions. Apollo's gentle caresses and loving words filling him with warmth and breaking the crushing feeling of misery. Apollo kissed him softly, encouraging, "Please, love. Talk to me!" Apollo's pleading finally broke Starbuck's resolve, and he whispered, "I…can't fly, Apollo! It's destroyed everything that I am! I wish…" Starbuck couldn't finish, his emotions choking him.
Apollo whispered softly, "You wish what?"
Starbuck turned his head, his voice barely above a whisper, "I wish I had died on the planet!"
Apollo closed his eyes in pain, anger welling up inside. "How dare you say such a thing to me! For two cycles I thought you were dead; I was filled with such pain I thought of flying my viper into the side of the Galactica!" Apollo could see the shocked expression on Starbuck's face, and continued. "Is that all you think you are? Nothing but a viper pilot? Let me fill you in, Starbuck. You're so much more than that! You're a very loyal and loving man, Starbuck. A father to Boxey, a brother to so many people! And a warrior that has given the ultimate sacrifice to protect his people!" Apollo saw the tear that escaped from the bandaged eyes, and his voice softened. "And you're my heart and soul!" Starbuck's lips trembled, and Apollo leaned down and kissed him.
Starbuck returned the kiss, pouring his love and gratitude into the gesture. Before Apollo could pull away, Starbuck moved his hand and ran his fingers through the dark hair, holding him close. He broke the kiss, feeling Apollo's warm breath against his face. He whispered, "I'm sorry, Apollo." Apollo kissed him tenderly, cutting off any further apologies. "Shh, love. I promise we'll get through this." He frowned as he saw Starbuck wince, his hand releasing his hold on him and moving to his chest. Suddenly frightened, he asked nervously, "Starbuck, are you in pain?"
The sudden explosion of pain in Starbuck's chest had startled him. It left him gasping on the bed for breath and feeling weak. As the pain slowly diminished, he felt Apollo's hands frantically caressing his face. He groaned, whispering weakly, "I'm…okay."
Apollo doubted Starbuck, seeing the way his lover struggled to breathe. He reached for Starbuck's hand, pulling it away from the bruised chest. He watched Starbuck for a few microns, wondering if he should get Salik. Slowly Starbuck seemed to catch his breath, his face slowly relaxing as the pain faded. As the centons passed, Starbuck's breathing turned deep. Apollo watched him, relieved he was asleep. His eyes drifted down Starbuck's body, seeing his lower body disappear into the chamber. Apollo realized Starbuck was going to need a lot of care when he was released. He smiled; he was just the person to take care of him.
Adama followed Salik into the critical room, hoping they had given Starbuck and Apollo enough time alone together. He needed to talk to the Lieutenant, to find out if he remembered what had happened. As he entered the room, he smiled as he saw his son sitting on the bed. His smile broadened as Apollo turned to face them and he saw the joy and determination radiating in his eyes. Apollo rose from the bed, placing Starbuck's hand gently back onto the mattress. Adama asked quietly, "Apollo, is Starbuck awake? I need to ask him some questions."
Apollo hesitated, glancing back towards the bed. He knew the questions his father wanted to ask, and wanted the answers as well. However, Starbuck had finally managed to fall asleep and he was reluctant to wake him. Suddenly he heard Starbuck's weak voice from the bed. "Sir, I'm awake."
Adama approached the bed, speaking softly, "Starbuck, I need to ask you a few questions. Are you up to it?"
Starbuck winced as he shifted on the bed, trying to come to attention. He immediately felt a strong hand rest on his shoulder, and heard the Commander's voice. "Easy, Starbuck. Just relax." Starbuck nodded and sank gratefully back onto the bed.
Adama kept his hand on Starbuck's shoulder, asking, "Can you tell me what you remember?"
Starbuck's voice was soft, as he told the Commander what he remembered. "I was going after the retreating Cylons. By the time I caught up to them, I was out of range. I managed to shot one down and saw another viper destroy another." He took a deep breath, ignoring the pain it caused. "The last fighter managed to get a lock on me." He frowned as he remembered the fear and panic he felt as the Cylon chased him. "He must have hit me, because the next thing I remember was waking up on the planet. I thought it was night because I couldn't see."
Adama glanced at Apollo, seeing the rage back in the green eyes. He turned his attention back to Starbuck asking, "Starbuck, do you remember what happened to the other pilot?"
Starbuck was confused, not understanding what the Commander wanted. "No…sir. I…" He tried to remember, his head aching from the effort. His voice sounded weak as he continued. "The…Cylons had a lock."
Salik suddenly stepped forward, hearing the pain and exhaustion in his patient's voice. "I'm sorry Commander, that's enough questions for now." Adama nodded, and Salik moved to prepare a sedative.
Starbuck's mind swirled; he felt that somehow he had disappointed the Commander. He felt Adama's hand move from his shoulder and he tried to sit up. "Sir, I'm…sorry! The other pilot…did he return?"
The alarms above Starbuck's head beeped in alarm, indicating the serious rise in pressure. Adama moved quickly back to the bed, hearing Salik curse behind him. With Apollo's help, they managed to ease Starbuck back onto the bed. Adama spoke soothingly, "Lieutenant, calm down! The other viper made it back to the Galactica safely. I just needed to know what you remembered. It's not important, so just take it easy."
Salik injected him with the sedative and Starbuck instantly relaxed. The pain eased in his chest and he managed to mumble, "Yes, sir," before falling into a deep sleep.
Apollo breathed a sigh of relief as the alarms stopped beeping and the monitors showed Starbuck's vitals leveling out. He rose tiredly from the bed, following Salik and his father from the room. In the hall, he met his father's eyes. "He doesn't remember! Bojay is going to walk away from this one!"
Adama sighed, placing his hand on Apollo's shoulder. "I'm sorry, Apollo. It appears that way." He saw the fury in Apollo's eyes, and ordered. "Stay away from Bojay! Starbuck needs you Apollo. It will destroy both of you if you do something rash!" Apollo held his eyes, staring at him for several microns before nodding slowly. Adama turned and walked from the Life Center, he now had to inform the Council to reinstate Bojay.
